Nudes: Antony Gormley’s One & Other
Our 13 naked plinthers reveal all...
ONE & OTHER NUDES - BEND OVER LET ME SEE YOU SHAKE YOUR TAIL FEATHER
It takes a brave man to be the first to get naked, and that man was plinther Eric Page on day 23. Raising awareness about HIV, he certainly knew how to grab people's attention.
ONE & OTHER NUDES - THE NICE LADY DEMONSTRATED HOW TO PAINT THE TOWN RED
The first instance of partial nudity was on day 13 when artist Sarah Burden paid homage to Antony Gormley's Angel of the North with some topless body painting.
ONE & OTHER NUDES - AND HERE'S ONE I MADE EARLIER...
Naked body painting, why not give it a whirl in the privacy of your own home?
ONE & OTHER NUDES - CONFUSED, SIMON WONDERED WHAT THEY WERE ALL STARING AT
This plinther was about to turn 50 and what better way to celebrate than removing his pants in the middle of London. Sadly the police didn't take kindly to his birthday suit and ordered him to cover up.
ONE & OTHER NUDES - BE ARTY, GET YOUR KIT OFF
Taking up a rocking horse to the plinth, our modern day Lady Godiva even managed to persuade some of the audience to remove their clothes.
ONE & OTHER NUDES - CLOTHES OPTIONAL, NOTES ESSENTIAL
She certainly made a statement and successfully managed to get people join her naked crusade
ONE & OTHER NUDES - DOBBIN COULDN'T QUITE BELIEVE HIS BLINKERS
The theme was Lady Godiva
ONE & OTHER NUDES - PIN THE TAIL ON THE DONKEY
‘The day you ride a horse naked round town is the day I’ll stop putting up taxes’ said Mr Godiva to his upset lady wife.
ONE & OTHER NUDES - SPOT THE DIFFERENCE
Paying homage to the classical nudes, one dedicated plinther posed as Rodin's 'The Thinker' for his hour.
ONE & OTHER NUDES - STRIP SEARCH
Several plinther's were told to cover up by the police
ONE & OTHER NUDES - PLINTH POLE DANCER
This traffic stopping pole dancer proved to be the most popular plinther of them all...
ONE & OTHER NUDES - STRIP SEARCH
...And some how managed to persuade some fiercesome officers of the law to let her carry on with her dancing.
ONE & OTHER NUDES - THE POOR LADY HAD A VERY BAD BACK
The Stringfellow's dancer was a hit online as well as the square, many extended their lunch breaks to see if the lovely lady would remove anything else.
ONE & OTHER NUDES
managing to even get good cop, bad cop, on her side.
ONE & OTHER NUDES - BE ENVIRONMENTLY FRIENDLY, RECYCLE NAKED
Plinther 2,284 was a homeless man that collected anything that was discarded by the plinth and took them up as his only props. He didn't find any clothes, so, he went without.
ONE & OTHER NUDES - APPLY AFTER BATHING, NOT BEFORE
The talcum powder went down a storm
ONE & OTHER NUDES - PREGNANT PLINTHER
This 8 month pregnant plinther proudly donned a nude suit to show off her bump
ONE & OTHER NUDES - MIND THE PIGEONS
Proud, pregnant and naked - Alison Lapper was the inspiration for many of our nude plinthers
ONE & OTHER NUDES - WOULD YOU ADAM AND EVE IT!
Some plinthers were more creative than others in disguising their private parts...

Tim Marlow looks back at Antony Gormley’s One & Other in which 2400 British citizens became ‘living statues’ on the fourth plinth in London’s Trafalgar Square ; 13 of which created a stir by stripping completely naked, including naturists, a pole-dancer and exhibitionists.
Art historian, broadcaster and current Director of Exhibitions at London’s White Cube gallery Tim Marlow remembers the plinthers who stripped off and challenged societies attitude towards nudity. The plinth’s first nude Eric Page wanted to raise awareness for HIV and Aids and Kiran Mahay went up in the guise of Lady Godiva to promote naturism. Sara Burden used her naked form to create a homage to Antony Gormley’s Angel of the North, pole-dancer Naomi MacDonald wanted to make people smile and Ollie Campbell combined nudity, random inflatables and a chicken to provide arguably the most surreal hour on the plinth.
We also find out what the tourists and commuters thought about being confronted with nudity on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square. This is Antony Gormley’s One & Other stripped bare.
