Documentary on the life and frank work of the photographer
"There is a popular notion that the photographer is by nature a voyeur, the last one invited to the party. But I'm not crashing; this is my party. This is my family, my history."
So says Nan Goldin New-York based photographer and prolific, provocative chronicler of her own life, whose painful and delicate work is based almost exclusively on friends and lovers. I'll Be Your Mirror is a highly-acclaimed film portrait of the artist and her work, featuring interviews with her most frequent subjects members of her alternative family, affectionately referred to as her 'tribe' as well as her film footage and early photographic work from the 1970s. This is a highly personal documentary which chronicles Goldin's search for community, her struggle against death and loss in the face of drug addiction and AIDS, and her ever-expanding friendships: If anyone in the equation is a voyeur, it is us and not her.
