Feature-length documentary on aerosol artists and professional muralists Tats Cru, whose now-legit artistic careers began on the New York subway.
Director
Mark Kotlinski
Tats Cru was the original gang who started subway graffiti in New York in the 1980s, when hip-hop was still a new musical genre. This feature-length documentary traces the Bronx-based group's 25-year journey from graffiti artists to professional muralists and their stated aim to transform the negative concept of graffiti into an accepted and embraced artform.
Focussing on their creation, in 2004, of a mural for The Graffiti Hall of Fame in Harlem, the film features rare archival footage, previously unseen photographs, exclusive interviews, a behind-the-scenes look at the mural production process and the big-name graffiti campaigns for artists including Fat Joe, Big Pun, Nelly, J.Lo and Missy Elliot.
