Dance for the Camera Four: Part 2 - Exit

See TV listings for this programme

Dance for the Camera is a series of unique short dance films, made collaboratively by choreographers and directors and conceived especially for television. This part -set in the Greenwich foot tunnel - combines movement with a sense of history.

Director
Clara van Gool

Choreographer
Jamie Watton

Composer
Marvin Black

The Greenwich foot tunnel, built in 1903, is a pedestrian passageway running under the Thames. During bombing raids in the Second World War, Londoners would shelter in the tunnel, creating a home-from-home with their bags and boxes of treasured possessions. Something of their presence still echoes in this strange subterranean environment.

In this film, five performers are making their separate journeys through the tunnel, becoming increasingly absorbed by its brooding presence and the resonance of the structure. Past and present intrude on each other; time becomes fluid, whirling performers along the tunnel and across the boundary between now and then.
