Scottish Ballet’s new HQ
The all-singing, all-dancing new headquarters for Scottish Ballet
When Ashley Page became Artistic Director of Scottish Ballet in 2002 his vision not only included revitalising its repertoire and its dancers but also seeing the company housed in a building befitting its increasing international status. Five years on, that vision is nearing completion and by 2009 Scottish Ballet will have moved from its ill-suited and flood-prone Victorian studios to newly built premises at Glasgow's Tramway.
Costing £11 million, the company's new home, designed by Malcolm Fraser Architects, will include rehearsal studios, an education centre, state-of-the-art technical workshops and administration offices. The Scottish Arts Council and Glasgow City Council have provided the majority of funding but a final sum of £1million remains to be found. At the beginning of the month the BBC's Kirsty Wark, patron of the project, launched a public campaign to raise the final amount.
