The story of an outsider who found himself inside

Paul H-O (shortened from Hasegawa-Overacker) was a humble public access host from New York, best known for his outlandish antics on the gonzo art show GalleryBeat. Cindy Sherman was an internationally-renowned artist, widely regarded as one of the world’s most gifted and significant visual talents. They were an unlikely couple.

But when the notoriously press-shy Sherman granted Paul access to her studio for a series of exclusive interviews, romance blossomed. Before long, Paul found himself flung into the upper echelons of society, rubbing shoulders with the stars. But his new role as Sherman’s ‘other half’ left Paul feeling inadequate and marginalised, and eventually caused him to have a physical breakdown.

Filmed over 15 years and featuring a host of key players from the world of art and entertainment – including John Waters, Molly Ringwald, Danny DeVito, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Robert Longo and Ingrid Sischy – Guest of Cindy Sherman is the ultimate story of an outsider who suddenly found himself on the inside.
