Illuminata

Susan Sarandon and Christopher Walken star in acclaimed director John Turturro's erotic farce.

The play-within-a-play device isn't new (Hamlet tried it) but it represents an age-old fascination with the overlap between theatre and real life.

Set in New York's late-19th century theatre world, Illuminata concerns an ambitious, romantically-entangled playwright struggling to stage his masterpiece, helped and hindered by the theatre's large company. Lyrical and colourful, Illuminata is a delightful examination of creativity, relationships and ambition in that peculiar twilight world between reality and the malleable fiction of theatre.
