Possibly one of the most iconic silent films of all time, Safety Last from 1923 is the feature for which Harold Lloyd is best remembered. He stars in it as an ingenue country boy, seeking his fortune in the big city, where he finds employment as a shop assistant in a department store. While there, he comes up with the idea of offering $1000 to anyone who can bring more customers to the store. He then arranges for a friend, a 'human fly', to climb the face of the store building as a publicity stunt.
However, it transpires that the 'human fly' is on the run from the police, and when they arrive and take him away, Lloyd is left to make the climb himself. needless to say, the ascent is fraught with difficulties, and culminates in the famous 'clock scene'.
