Showcasing the Dutch violin maestro
Andre Rieu
Violin sensation Andre Rieu is the man who brought the waltz back into fashion and created a new, ingenious trend of playing contemporary music the classical way
Andre Rieu
Showcasing that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, Andre started playing the violin at the age of 5. It wasn't hard to predict that he would follow in the footsteps of his father, of the same name, who was conductor of the Maastricht Symphony Orchestra
Andre Rieu
Actually, Andre surpassed his father. In 1987, he created the Johann Strauss Orchestra, initially comprised of 12 members and now exceeding 40 phenomenal musicians. Their exquisite performances have left an imprint on the entire globe including Europe, Japan, Australia and North America
Andre Rieu
A face and persona of rock appearance and classical composure, Andre Rieu has won a number of awards including two World Music Awards while his orchestral recordings have gone gold and platinum in many countries, including 8-times Platinum in his most loyal supporter, the Netherlands
Andre Rieu
Champagne, heartfelt singing and orchestral dynamism is a majestic blend only Andre Rieu can pull off - all in an atmosphere of a ballroom gone wild
Andre Rieu
Selling out more stadium shows than pop-stars of the likes of Beyonce and Rihanna, Rieu's shows are nothing short of the excitement, glamour and spine-tingling performances expected of a super-star
Andre Rieu
And Andre Rieu is never one to disappoint the crowd that longs to hear its favourite tunes. All-time classics like Amazing Grace, The Godfather music and Sinatra's My Way are commonly heard during his concerts, providing a little gut-bursting, off-tune singing time for all of us
Andre Rieu
Andre Rieu is anything but a one-trick-pony. Just when you're ready to dub him King of Romance in addition to King of Waltz, you'll find him in saucy Mexico, shaking it up with beloved latin tracks like Mexican Hat Dance and La Paloma
Andre Rieu
Combining the perennial beauty of classical music with an exciting, modern-day show is something Andre Rieu has definitely put his stamp on
Andre Rieu
Dutch by origin, Andre Rieu concerts in Holland are certainly of the most vehement and exuberant as his fellow natives cluster in tens of 000's to give him the welcome he deserves
Andre Rieu
He's rarely alone...Favourite soprano soloists Kimmy Skota, Mirusia Louwerse and Kalki Schrijvers are frequently the elected female accompaniment to the Johann Strauss Orchestra and Andre Rieu
Andre Rieu
One of Andre's favourite concert spots is right in his hometown of Maastricht, in the Vrijthtof square. It's no wonder it attracts a high-calibre audience of the likes of Sir Anthony Hopkins
Andre Rieu
With a repertoire including hits like My Heart Will Go On, Ave Maria, music from Swan Lake, The Phantom of the Opera and Cats as well as classics from the world's best composers, Andre Rieu will spellbind you into music oblivion
Andre Rieu
Prepare to relive your childhood fantasies and dance along as Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty or Snow White without anyone chaining you back down to the mundane, everyday world..Andre Rieu takes you to the Efteling theme park in the Netherlands which you'll never want to leave
Andre Rieu
He definitely has a lot of aces up his sleeve...Don't miss the chance to be surprised and enchanted by this world-famous violinist who made classical music fashionable once again
We bring you a host of concerts from the always smiling and hugely successful violinist Andre Rieu, showcasing the Dutch violin maestro at his effervescent best.
In these sell out concerts the audiences go wild for his mix of classical and contemporary music - they’re even waltzing in the aisles!
“My audience is everybody,” Rieu claims. “I see the professor sitting next to the cleaning woman.”
Songs From My Heart
André Rieu’s spectacular midsummer night concerts in the Vrijthof square with unforgettable performances by regular Rieu soloists Suzan, Carmen and Carla and the Platinum Tenors.
Romantic Paradise
While on holiday in Italy with family and friends, Rieu found a small town in Tuscany called Cortona and in the centre of this town was the Piazza Della Repubblica where this special concert would end up being filmed.

Watch: Andre Rieu performs the theme from The Godfather in this Tuscany concert
Live in Maastricht II
Once again Rieu is back in his home town and in time for the traditional summer concert on the Vrijthof which has been transformed into a huge open-air music venue featuring an extra 100 children on stage in addition to the 13-year-old Melissa Venema on the trumpet.

Watch: Andre Rieu leads a spectacular opening to the second Live in Maastricht concert
The Flying Dutchman
The concert from Kerkrade with all the soloists, Carla, Carmen, Suzan, Akim, Otto Waalkes, John Sheahan, 100 horses with riders and a corps of trumpeters and percussionists, this two-hour spectacle is Rieu's biggest show from 2004.
In Wonderland
To the music of Thus spake Zarathustra, the gates open to reveal one of André Rieu's most elaborate stage shows - all recorded at Efteling, a fairy-taled theme park.

Watch: Andre Rieu and a host of recognisable fairytale characters dance the night away in Efteling
I Lost My Heart in Heidelberg
André and the Johann Strauss Orchestra, Mirusia Louwerse, Carla Maffioletti, the Platinum Tenors and the Berlin Comedian Harmonists in an ever spectacular open-air concert with a romantic ruined castle as a setting.
Watch: Andre Rieu and the Platinum tenors perform the jubilant 'Drinking Song' for the students of Heidelberg
Live in Vienna
A concert on the square in front of the imperial Hofburg Palace in the heart of Vienna, with superb compositions from the most famous Viennese composers: Johann Strauss, Franz Lehár, Emmerich Kálmán, W.A. Mozart, Robert Stolz and many others.

Watch: Andre Rieu performs with the Platinum tenors, the sopranos, and the ballet of the Vienna State Opera
Dancing Through the Skies
This concert is also a wedding party which takes place in one of the most famous opera houses in the world, the Semper Opera in Dresden. The audience are carried along by waltzes, the paso doble, arias and moving songs from The Phantom of the Opera.
Live in Maastricht III
André is back in Maastricht for a third show - returning to the Vrijthof Square for the traditional summer evening concert in his home town. Not to be outdone - for this concert there are no less than 450 brass players.
La Vie Est Belle
The premiere of the "La vie est belle" world tour took place in the spectacular open-air Waldbühne theatre in Berlin. Backed up by a choir, an extra drum ensemble, 300 bagpipe players and sensational fireworks, André gives one of his most extravagant concerts.

Watch: Andre Rieu and the orchestra perform the beautiful 'You Are My Hearts Desire' in Berlin
At Schönbrunn, Vienna
This concert beautifully recreates for you the musical spectacle that took place in the courtyard in front of Vienna’s Schönbrunn Palace in the Summer of 2006.
Fiesta Mexicana
Soon after recovering from illness, André Rieu delights fans all over the world with magical performances of some of his best-loved music in Africa, Mexico and Germany.
Roses From The South
André Rieu and the world’s most exuberant orchestra, fantastic soloists, a Baroque castle, a flower paradise, charming countesses, a languid summer’s night, and dancers from Vienna.

Watch: Andre Rieu perform in the beautiful island garden of Mainau
Love Songs
For all those special moments in your life, from the most beautiful love songs from all of his specials. Piece after piece, they are all wonderful, romantic melodies played by André and his orchestra.
Live in Maastricht IV
Fantastic summer concert from the King of Waltz's hometown. Soprano Mirusia Louwerse joins André Rieu at the Vrijthof, along with soloists he met during his South African tour.
Romance
In ‘Romance’ André takes his viewers to see the most beautiful spots he has ever played in, each more romantic than the last: Vienna, Venice, Paris, Tuscany and of course Limburg.
My African Dream
From André’s performances in the presence of Queen Elizabeth and Queen Beatrix, to his Cape Town rehearsals with South African children bubbling over with enthusiasm... this concert is full of surprises.
Dreaming
Prepare to be serenaded, as the charming and charismatic Dutch violinist performs a collection of some of the world's most romantic melodies.
Gala Concert
The King of Waltz performs some of his greatest songs alongside humorous and talented guests. Sensational and magical gala concert filmed in Hamburg.
Romantic Moments
Rieu returns with one of his most enchanting programmes, capturing André and the orchestra in some of the most lovely and romantic locales in Europe.
André Rieu is back in the UK for a fabulous concert tour in 2012, stopping off in Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, London, and Birmingham.

A word of praise for SKY ARTS 2. Well done for screening and continuing to screen all the concerts by Andre Rieu. Seems that you are the only TV channel who recognises the talent of Andre and the JSO. I suspect that after his UK tour all the other channels will wake up and want some of the action. Well done again.

I would personally like to thank the lady at Sky I spoke to 16 months ago. I requested Andre Rieu concerts on Sky Arts and she said she had never heard of him. I informed her that he has thousands of fans many of whom are in the UK. She promised to look into this fact and now look what has happened, and a tour also! So again THANK YOU SKY and keep up the good work!

Please, please, please repeat the Andre Rieu concerts already shown, they are absolute magic and a joy to watch. Even when you are feeling down they raise your spirits to the utmost to see not only the audience enjoying the music, but also the orchestra enjoying playing it. Also, I hope you will be showing all the concerts on his UK and Ireland tour at some time in the future.

Totally agree with all comments, his concerts raise your spirits and make you so happy. Only recently discovered his concerts and watched them on Sky Arts. Wonderful!! Did have tickets for his 23 Sept concert in Birmingham LG Arena but as everyone must know, cancelled due to his ill health. So disappointed. Glad to hear you are repeating the concerts. Please also repeat the interview you did with him on prior to the proposed UK tour so that I can make my family watch and see what they are missing!!

Nothing really new to add from what everyone else has said, just to say what a great run of concerts from Sky Arts. Can’t wait for more to come. Fantastic stuff and it’s so good to watch uninterrupted concerts with no commercial breaks like on virtually every other channel these days!! Long may Sky Arts continue!! I’ve been hooked ever since last new year’s eve when you showed the Royal Albert Hall and Schonbrunn concerts.

Have only, by accident (channel switching) discovered the sheer brilliance of Andre Rieu-possibly THE best kept show business secret ever! Totally stunning and have front row seats for his forthcoming re-scheduled April 02 concert. One mystery for me remains and I hope all you Andre fans will oblige me with the answer.
The upcoming UK Tour is billed as ‘his first Uk tour’..and yet I understand he was on the 2009 Royal Command Performance and played the Royal Albery Hall-what year(s) were the latter as Andre mentions the ‘millenium’ during one RAH concert tape 2000?....yet I have been told the Royal Albert Hall concert was during 2009..can any one clarify the true dates of all his past UK concerts please?

Dicovered Sky Arts 2 by accident on a friends set-up. I also have the channel on my package although unknown to me until now.
Is it concevable that the Andre Rieu series of concerts will be repeated in the near future?

Fantastic uplifting performances. Does anyone know which recording contains the sequence where Andre’s violinist leaves the orchestra at the Vrijthof, rides a bicycle to the nearby church and plays the carillon there, please?

Answer to Paul Meggitt
Andre’s violinist Frank Steijns rides the bicycle to the church in Songs from my Heart if my memory is correct.

In the middle of watching ‘Dreaming’ - what a delightfully different presentation by Andre. Looks like being one of my favourites! Many thanks to Sue for answering by question.

Oh my, yet again we have all been enthralled by Andre Rieu. Hated classical music as a child, accidently tuned in last year on Sky Arts 2 and have been hooked ever since. We can watch these again and again. Bravo !!!

Andre Rieu and his JSO. What can I say! I’ve always loved the Johann Strauss Waltzes from a child (my Dad was a Classical Music buff). I’ve watched most of Andre Rieu’s sell out concerts on Sky Arts 1 and 2 over the last year. He makes classical music so “un-stuffy” for the ordinary man in the street to appreciate and love. I love Manoe Konings and her antics on stage. I’m hoping to attend one of Andre’s concerts live in the UK if I can get the tickets or make a pilgrimage to Maastricht. (Crazy Malaysian)

I’m absolutely stunned!!! Stunned!!!
That so many think that Andre Rieu has nay talent at all is amazing!! That anyone can think this is entertaining is amazing!! That Sky can spend the whole of New Years Eve and New Years Day playing this rubbish is amazing!!!
No wonder the country is in the mess its in!!!
Amazing!!!

geoff, the new year bollinger has gone to your brain. Remember strauss himself was vilified also by the stuffed shirt purists of the austro hungarian empire - and he went onto world fame, wads of cash and young crumpet. Why? Because he uplifted and brought joy to the masses. Same as andre.

its a shame that mr Bolinger - Smythe hasn`t a musical bone in his body! but as my husband always says there is an off button. perhaps his brain was that fogged up he couldn`t find it, or then again he may be a fan who just loves to try and upset people. Keep up the good work sky andre is brilliant!

I take it that the name Bollinger- Smythe is some alias for a champagne drinking smith , no doubt with aspirations to granduer. Who feels nothing and is totally devoid of a musical soul .Believes that the rest of us are cretins who love being entertained and amused by one of the most civilised men we are ever likely to meet . The mess in this world Mr Bollinger - Smythe - is you.
