That is strange.. they forgot to mention the actual headliners of this show.. and yet mentioned Transatlantic twice. Who edits this stuff? We flew in from the States just to see ELP.

I’m guesing the authors are too young to realize how big ELP were in the early 70’s - the biggest, most bombastic concerts in history with new-fangled Moog Synthesizers, quadrophonic sound, classical adaptations, spinning piano and all so loud that I recall being temporarily deaf for a day or so after an ELP gig in 1973. They were THE band to see in those days, nothing else came close as an overall concert experience. The HVF reunion was of course not quite the same (20-ish vs 60-ish) but was still a fabulous reminder of what real players such as ELP can do and hopefully was an inspiration to the Y generation.

It’s a shame only 90 minutes of highlights are being shown - I would have thought there would have been much more material from 2 full days that could have been shown.
Also, the first day featured the final ever performance by Heaven and Hell as a tribute to Ronnie James Dio; an historic event for most rock fans, but they don’t feature at all in this package.
It would be good if more complete programmes featuring whole sets by some bands could be shown in future (eg Heaven and Hell, ELP, Wishbone Ash, Uriah Heep etc)

They are showing ‘Only you can rock me’ by UFO which is a great track but was dogged by sound problems,is it a case of fix it in the mix??? The picture also shows Pete Way who didn’t play HV. All in all it was a cracking weekend and I’ll be playing spot myself in the crowd!!!

No Heaven and Hell due to the fact that it was never recorded as per band instructions

Unbelievable weekend, 90 mnis of highlights is never going to do it justice. Focus, Uriah Heep, Wishbone Ash etc showed how to entertain whilst enjoying themselves at the same time. No better climax than ELP. Seen them numerous times over the years and they never sell you short. Still THE best live band ever. Given the amount of filming done on all the sets and stages there has to be more to come. Maybe full sets on DVD

Andy you are dead right, things do move on, Transatlantic, Spocks Beard, Dream Theatre prove that. But even Portnoy respects the roots, Yellow Matter Custard (his double album of Beatles covers) and his encore at the HVF with Steve Hackett re-visited early Genesis. Jusy cos some of us are old enough to remember where it started doesn’t mean we don’t don’t move with the times.

So what happened to the rest of it, then?
I sat through all of it, right to the end and even ELP, waiting to see The Reasoning, Touchstone and Bigelf only to find the running order above is phoney-baloney. And I had to suffer that bloke from Magnum constantly trying to swat in invisible fly.
Sky Arts! My arts!
When do we get the rest of it?

Why are Black Label Society at the top of this page? If I recall correctly the stage they were on wasn’t filmed AT ALL on the day.

If you’re going to try and draw viewers into watching an obscure channel for a niche market at least get the tracklisting right for one of your shows.
I plussed this so I could watch Touchstone and The Reasoning only to discover that the track listing above was bogus. Why? Why advertise the above tracklisting and not deliver it?
I’ll be avoiding SkyAss in future.

Yes, what a con. At long last I was looking forward to seeing The Reasoning and Touchstone getting some decent TV exposure. They only got 30mins each at High Voltage and the sets were two of the very best. So to cut them out of the Sky Arts program is a total disgrace. Sorry, Sky but you’ve really messed this one up bigtime.

Thats funny, nearly all the tracks listed are by the bands i didn’t watch! Apart from ELP, who i like but were a major disappointment, with Greg Lake’s vocals not a patch on what they used to be and everything being played half-pace. I suppose i should watch it to see what i missed.

to Andy Banks:
.
Andy: I couldnt have said it better myself. Forget ELP. Transatlantic’s The Whirlwind by far is more memorable (to me) than any of ELP’s work, although Tarkus and Brain Salad Surgery are great albums, Transatlantic’s SMPT:E and Bridge Across Forever far beat them. And “The Whirlwind” is so good, words can’t describe it. Dont get me wrong, ELP are great, just not one of ‘todays’ prog-rock bands, of which there are many, just not publicly recognized. Pendragon, the aforementioned Transatlantic, Spock’s Beard, IQ, Riverside.. neo-prog has just as much a place as classic prog, if not moreso as the music generally relates to todays events/the world we live in today. Although got to say, Pink Floyd will never be ‘beaten’
