Leading British saxophonist Iain Ballamy £45,000 prize from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation
Leading British saxophonist Iain Ballamy is among eight artists and musicians to each be awarded a £45,000 prize from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. The largest arts prize of its kind the sum is awarded over a three-year period, with recipients chosen for their talent, promise, tenacity, perseverance as well as need and achievement.
Set up by publisher and philanthropist Hamlyn in 1987 these awards have since helped 45 visual artists, with the remit now including musicians with a total of 20 nominations each year. Classical composers Jonathan Lloyd and Luke Bedford were also winners along with Ballamy, the latter making a return to form this year with his latest album, More Jazz.
