The conductor as movie star

Herbert von Karajan was the first major orchestral conductor to create film and later on video productions of his work. No one else seemed to realise the importance of such documentation, Karajan exclaims this with a frustrated ‘I am actually born too early!’

A chronological documentary from the first concert production in 1957 which includes outstanding performance material and unreleased digitally remastered excerpts.

Includes interviews with Karajan’s team: his director of photography, his editor, his secretary, his producers and musicians of Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
