The Waldbühne in Berlin, one of the most appealing outdoor amphitheatres on the European continent, is the home of the Berliner Philharmonic's summer concerts and regularly attracts crowds of up to 20,000 people.
This 2004 concert sees Sir Simon Rattle leading the orchestra in a selection of Tchaikovsky's most popular works, including the 2nd act of Tchaikowsky's Nutcracker and his Piano Concerto No 1. The featured soloist is the outstanding 22-year-old Chinese pianist Lang Lang.
Lang Lang is one of the new generation of superstar pianists embodying a rare combination of exceptional skill and natural charisma. He has won numerous awards at international piano competitions and already performed with many of the most prestigious orchestras in the world.
