Sir Paul McCartney and the members of Metallica and Duran Duran are among the interviewees in this new series examining the innovative work of renowned music video directors, including Wayne Isham and David Mallet.
The series begins with a look at the glittering career of Russell Mulcahy, whose pioneering videos included Duran Duran’s Rio, Queen’s A Kind Of Magic and The Buggles’ Video Killed The Radio Star. Despite creating some of the most ground-breaking and influential videos of the decade, Mulcahy confesses that most of his 400-odd videos were born out “organised chaos”. He states: “No one at that stage knew what videos were about so they let you throw in the kitchen sink... no one around me knew what the hell I was doing.”
Despite stories of on-set clashes, tantrums and near death experiences, Malcahy created some of the most iconic videos of the last century and a host of stars, including Roger Taylor, Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, Kim Carnes, Bonnie Tyler, Gary Kemp and Mick Fleetwood, pay tribute to his undoubted talent.
Featured videos include:
Duran Duran - Rio
Elton John - I’m Still Standing
Queen - It’s a Kind of Magic
Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse of the Heart
True - Spandau Ballet
Diana Ross – Chain Reaction
Queen – I Want to Break Free
Boomtown Rats – I Don’t like Mondays
