Opera
Sky Arts and ENO
Sky Arts sponsors the English National Opera
Sky has sponsored English National Opera since 2003 and the Sky Arts season runs until 2009. This is one of the largest and longest running sponsorships of an arts organisation in the UK.
As well as the traditional opera repertoire like Mozart's Don Giovanni or Verdi's La Traviata, Sky is particularly keen to support and nurture ENO productions that are contemporary and reach new audiences. We do this by enabling ENO to present new work or to forge new collaborations with different artists. This work is then presented as the Sky Focus production each year. In 2008, the Sky Focus production is a new collaboration between ENO and the Young Vic: Lost Highway based on the controversial film by David Lynch.
This is the first time ENO has performed at the Young Vic and the production promises to be both bold and innovative with a unique combination of live orchestral and sampled music presented in surround sound. Video also plays an essential role in the unfolding action.
ENO is also known for looking to forge new links between the world of opera and other art-forms with collaborations like Oscar-winning director Anthony Minghella's award-winning and visually ravishing production of Madam Butterfly which was first performed in 2005 and returned to the London Coliseum in January 2008.
Through our sponsorship we support every production in ENO's season and we are proud to be associated with one of the UK's largest and most significant arts companies.

ENO Baylis
ENO Baylis is ENO's education department, which is supported by Sky Arts. It offers opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience and enjoy opera at ENO. Last year 11,000 people took part in ENO Baylis projects and for many it was their first experience of opera.
Here are two examples of the projects that Baylis produces:
Baylis Live offers a variety of events giving further insight into ENO's programme. Highly popular Family Events and Know the Show programmes are suitable for non-professional singers, while the Talks programme features an array of speakers from cast and crew to experts and cultural commentators.
Baylis Training extends the range of training opportunities offered by ENO including a new course for aspiring singers and the development of a youth programme, run in collaboration with St Marylebone School. And for anyone interested in a career in technical theatre, ENO Baylis co-presents special open days with other London theatres.
All ENO Baylis initiatives are led by professional artists. These include ENO company singers and orchestra members as well as composers, writers, directors and designers who are experienced in encouraging non-professionals to get involved in singing, composing, performing or other aspects of opera.
ENO/Baylis Interactive
As part of its drive to make ENO accessible to all, ENO Baylis has launched a new online multi-media initiative with the support of Sky Arts.
The ENO Interactive hub allows people to explore selected productions in greater detail and to find out what happens behind-the-scenes via cast and crew blogs, interviews, video diaries, games and downloadable content. People can also engage directly with ENO by logging on and leaving their comments.
ENO/Baylis Interactive opens up the Company to new audiences both internationally and at home; it enables people who might not be able to visit the London Coliseum to share in aspects of ENO's work; and it allows people to discover more about the artistic process behind productions that have inspired them.
