Day 3, Wed 10 June
Today marked the launch of an exciting collaboration between ten of London's innovative and directional young jewellery designers, who are you united for a cause and together form, 'Rising Gems'.
The 'Rising Gems' group includes, SHO Fine Jewellery, Missoma, Ana De Costa, Assya, Francesca Sibylla Augusta FSA, Ornella Iannuzzi, Sabine Roemer, Leblas, Annina Vogel and Carla Shanks. Individually they're portfolios boast some very impressive work and achievements, from industry awards to commissions for the like's of Nelson Mandela and Bill Clinton, and of course Swarovski.
The 'Rising Gems' collection is sponsored by ENLIGHTENED Swarovski Elements which is a range of precision cut genuine precious gemstones. And the idea behind the collection is for each designer to create one piece of jewellery that is inspired by the UK conservation charity the World Land Trust whose patron is Sir David Attenborough.
John Burton, CEO of the World Land Trust explains why projects like this are important and why the World Lands Trust got involved with the 'Rising Gems'
"The Rising Gems exhibition was a totally new venture for the World Land Trust, but one which has been very inspiring for everyone concerned. To see jewellers using wildlife conservation as an inspiration, in such innovative ways, is inspiring to us as conservationists. Each of the artists had totally different ways of interpreting the World Land Trust projects, and to see a flower recently named after Sir David Attenborough (our Patron) from the Ecuadorian forests, alongside a gold bracelet inspired by the mangroves save in the Philippines gives a whole new breadth to our work. When we are asked why it is important to conserve rainforests and other habitats, it is easy to say they are important for carbon sequestration, and it is easy to quantify this, but how does one quantify the aesthetic and inspiration value of such place? Perhaps one answer is to be found at this remarkable show."
Speaking to designers you can really hear their passion behind their pieces and for the cause:
“On behalf of the RISING GEMS designers we so happy with the success of last night’s event in Liberty. Everyone was amazed at the collection of cutting edge designs displayed in such a unique way. We created a real buzz in the jewellery industry and the event was positioned as one of the highlights of Coutts London Jewellery Week. We are now looking forward to RISING GEMS 2010!” - SHO Jewellery
“We are thrilled with the success of our Rising Gems 2009 collection which was created to highlight emerging UK jewellery talent and promote the next generation of jewellery stars; the feedback has been amazing from all corners of the industry and there has been a fantastic buzz surrounding all ten of the Rising Gems designers. None of this could have been achieved without the support of ENLIGHTENED TM – Swarovski Elements and the unique setting of Liberty ’s new Jewellery Room, which was the perfect platform from which people could discover the one-off and truly special designs.” - Marisa Hordern - Missoma
The 'Rising Gems Collection' really is stunning and the designers interpretations of the endangered animals and plant species are magical. That sole piece encapsulates and represents a precious piece of this world; highlighting causes from Ecuador to the home shores of the UK. These are emerging talents in the design industry and what a way to emerge, you should be delighted to announce your support for them and the cause.
Check out the collection which is on display exclusively in the NEW Designer Jewellery Room at Liberty of London during Coutts London Jewellery Week.
