Revered broadcaster Melvyn Bragg is to join Sky Arts in 2011 for an awards ceremony celebrating the arts

Sky Arts is set to revive the world’s biggest arts awards – The South Bank Awards. Recently honoured with a BAFTA Fellowship, Melvyn Bragg will host the awards which will take place in early 2011.
Bragg, who has not appeared on UK screens since the demise of the South Bank Show earlier this year, will return to his position as editor and master of ceremonies for the awards – one of the most coveted arts awards in the UK.
Bragg will also front a series of profile documentaries around each of the winners, to air on Sky Arts in the wake of the ceremony.
“Melvyn is the most passionate, enthusiastic and effective champions of the arts in the UK, so to have him on board is a tremendous honour,” comments John Cassy, director of Sky Arts.
"He’s bursting with ideas about how he can work with Sky to make these amazing awards an even bigger and better celebration of all that’s great in British culture. We can’t wait to get started.”
“I am delighted to be working with Sky Arts," adds Melvyn Bragg. "At a crucial time for contemporary arts in Britain, it is essential to continue to celebrate and examine them on television and Sky Arts has provided a magnificent opportunity for us to make a difference. I greatly look forward to working with Sky Arts to bring these awards back to television screens.”
The South Bank Sky Arts Awards will TX on Sky Arts 1 HD in early 2011.
