Musical version of the classic tale
If you haven't heard of Chickenshed, the chances are you probably will, and quite soon. The theatre company that prides itself on inclusive theatre theatre that belongs to everyone was formed in 1974 by musician and composer, Jo Collins and Mary Ward, a teacher and director, and its been growing ever since.
With a shared belief in harnessing the creativity in everyone and anyone, Collins and Ward started a theatre company - in a chicken shed. But their creative process worked, and more members joined as church halls replaced the eponymous shed. In the early 1980s the company included a boy with cerebral palsy for the first time. If were open to everyone, why is he the only one? asked the teenage members and Chickenshed became the first truly inclusive theatre company, open to everyone.
This is Chickenshed's newest production, which gives the festive Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol, a musical makeover. Chickenshed's unique adaptation of Charles Dickens classic novel transports you back to Victorian London to witness the transformation of Scrooge from tight-fisted to big-hearted, accompanied by the well-loved Cratchit family, a spectrum of ghosts and a host of colourful London characters. This cast of hundreds, original music and spectacular dance will mean there's not a humbug in sight.
