Maureen Lipman's affectionate and faithful tribute to Joyce Grenfell as she performs her best-loved sketches and monologues
"George...don't do that..." Those who delighted in Joyce Grenfell's (1910-79) comic sketches of the 1950s, 60s and early 70s might fear that her gentle and good-natured view of the innocent humour in everyday life is a lost art.
Not so: Maureen Lipman's faithful and affectionate re-enactments of those routines on the London stage in 1988 proved a surprise hit with generations more used to the less delicate language of alternative comedy.
Lipman intersperses the sketches with enlightening account of Grenfell's life and character.
So sit back, relax and enjoy them again here: if you hear any bleeps, it'll be nothing worse than your microwave.

This ‘Re Joyce’ programme was scheduled, according to the Radio Times, for two showing late November but were replaced by showings of Primo. I am interested to know when it is scheduled for another showing.
